My favorite blogs and web sites with photos and tips:
Smashing Magazine – the site has amazing photos and is filled with fresh ideas. I could just get list in it and sometimes I do.
DPS, Digital Photogrpahy School Just about every time I want to learn something new or how to improve my photography skills I find the tips and tricks on this site. I subscribe to the weekly newsletter which has tips for what to shoot over the week end. The photos are amazing and something to strive for.
Digicamhelp – filled with useful information. A great site for people who are new to digital photography, all about digital cameras and how to use them.
Fine Art Photography – the photos on this site make me want to throw my camera away. They are simply gorgeous.
A personal Favorite
Flickr – some see this site as a place to for photo storage. Flickr is so much more than that. Explore the groups, meet people with similar interests, enjoy great photos, learn something new and teach some one something new. It is about sharing photos, not storing them.
Online Photo Editing
Many of the photos on this site were edited in Picnik.com I discovered it when my daughter was living in france and had no way to edit the wonderful photos she was taking. her computer was kind of a mess and software was hard to get. With picnik it is all online, no software needed and for $24.95 a year I bought the pro account, I love it. With the Picnik browser extension for the Firefox browser Picnik can be used for screen shots and for editing any photo on the internet.
Places to purchase camera’s and equipment
B & H - They have the widest selection of equipment and their prices are very competitive.
Lenscaps.com – did you know that you can buy lens caps for a buck a piece? I lose a lot of them. They site also has filters.
Amazon.com – that is where I buy most of my equipement. I have checked prices and Amazon.com usually has the best prices.
Rentglass - I had no idea that camera equipment could be rented until a friend told me about this. Last year he went on a vacation and rented a telephoto lens to take with. It might also be a good way to test a lens before buying it. Lenses are expensive.
Local camera Equipment Rental – West Photo in Minneapolis, MN – They also sell just about everything related to photography.
Photo Viewing and Browsing
Flock – a great tool for keeping up with friends on Flickr and viewing their photos. Photos can be uploaded directly through the browser. Flock has so much more. Check it out.
Cooliris – used to be piclens, a great way to view photos online. It works with this blog too and with many other site. This is also a extension for the Firefox browser.
Other
If you have ever met me in person I probably gave you a moo card. They are small calling cards, kind of like business cards but more fun. They are made out of photos. Your photos if you like.
