Duluth Harbor - Lake Superior

We usually go up to lake Superior in mid to late September.  it is still tourist season but there are fewer people and the days are shorter to it is easier to get those sunrise and sunset shots.  I ended up getting wet taking  this shot.  I had tried to get it from a couple of other places but every time I composed a shot a small child in brightly colored clothing would pop up and end up in the shot.  So I got close and I think the discoloration in the photo occurred when the spray hit the lens.

Two Harbors Light House

This light house has been shot so many times that I think it has faded.  I couldn’t resist taking a few shots but I decided to try a new angle.  It is a working light house by that I mean the light is lit.  It is now a B&B and I have stayed there.  I give it five stars.

Rocks

Taken near Two harbors Minnesota on the shore of lake Superior.  We went up there for a few days for a little R & R and there isn’t anything more relaxing than watching water.

Artists Point Lake Superior Grand Marais MN

I took this a few years ago at artist’s point on the north shore of lake superior near Grand Marais, MN.  I must have taken in in the summer of 08. I love this place. I will be spending some time up there is a couple of weeks.  Mentally I am already packing.

Phalen Park

We have so many beautiful parks here in St. Paul.  I grabbed this shot last weekend while biking around lake Phalen.

Dulith harbor

Only people who have ever been to Duluth Harbor take this shot. I think I have taken it in all tyeps of weather and light. This one is kind of OK. Not much of a sunrise that morning.

Sand

This is a beach on Lake Superior. The shot was taken on a cloudy day so I aimed the camera at the sand. There are a couple of people that really like this shot.  I would like it better if it showed more water.

Sunrise

It seems like when I travel I am in the right place at the right time but the sunrise just doesn’t happen. Last sunday I was out taking some photos of local architecture and a sunrise did happen. I wasn’t in the best place to capture it but at least I wan’t at home in my jammies.  So much of photography is about lighting.

Boat and Bridge, Duluth Harbor, MN

The boat wasn’t moving very fast, the shutter speed was very slow.  Most of the time a moving object in a slow shutter speed type shot mucks things up but this one came out alright, which is a good thing becasue the sunrise that followed was kind of a non-event.
