I spent most of last Friday in Winona Minnesota helping a college professor find temporary housing. I love Winona. I went to school there for a year. The downtown area has so many lovely antique buildings. I just had to stop and look up.
For a time there was a sign in the window that said “The Irish are coming” and the grey trim was painted red. The suite was vacant for some time before the Parlour moved in and restored the trim to its original color. Thanks. The red was pretty but it felt like vandalism.
It is iconic and always fun to photograph. I usually take this shot at dusk or in the dark but It looks OK during the day too.
The houses on Summit Avenue are large and old and so are the trees. It looks especially nice in the Fall and in the spring when the leaves are just opening up.
My in-laws owned this house in the 1950’s. It was a kind of rooming house with small apartments. Today it is condos. No two are alike.
Part of the J.J. Hill mansion on Summit Avenue. building materials have changed a lot in the last 150 years or so.
