Yup that is me out enjoying the 40 degree weather and walking the mean streets of downtown St. Paul.
We have been having a nice January thaw in parts of Minnesota this past week. Even though the sun isn’t shining I really enjoyed walking around downtown and taking gloomy photographs.
I had been trying to get a picture of the one on the first national bank building. They don’t leave it on all the time like they used to and it doesn’t flash on and off anymore but it does light up and I understand that it has been modernized with LED type lights that are energy efficient.
The river is rarely quiet and smooth so when it is I just have to take a photo.
I have been watching as the buildings in the foreground are being demolished. On the bottom of the photo to the right there you can see a crane and other equipment. The gray area is where the jail used to be. To the left of that the buildings are missing windows and the demolition process has begun.
The “1” on the top of the 1st national bank building is being repaired and has been dark since January. Repairs are supposed to be done by the end of the summer.
One of my favorite buildings in Lowertown. I love the rounded windows and the shape of the front of the building. No we don’t build them like this anymore.
