A pretty house

Victorian house

Victorian

This house is a small one and it used to be painted  black and white. I like it better this way.

A walk in the park

Harriet Island

A walk in the park

In Harriet Island park, with the high bridge in the background.  I have always loved these walkways, maybe because of the way they curve and because of the distinctive street lights.

A shed with ginger bread

Gingerbread on a shed

They don’t make them like this anymore. This shed is in Hastings MN and part of the historic and well preserved LeDuc estate.  The buildings are Gothic revival.  Hastings is just south of St. Paul on the Mississippi river.  This barn isn’t as pretty as the house but I liked the shadows on it from the ancient oak trees the surround it.

A photographic challenge

by Tboard on Feb.25, 2010, under Architecture, Buildings

The Rossmor

The Rossmor

I list units in this building on a regular basis. With each listing I attempt to get a decent photo of the outside of the building.  This is my best to date but it isn’t quite there yet.  The building is a big rectangle and it is on a hill.  There isn’t any place to stand that is far enough away from the building to get it all in so the camera is always at an angle which doesn’t work so well with a wide angle lens.  I know I don’t have to get the entire building in the photo but it looks better having it all in the photo or most of it than part of it.

The Rossmor is a block long.  It was a shoe factory until it was converted into artists lofts.  I like the lofts in the Rossmor, they are big, clean and simple.  The last shot I took of the exterior was my second most stolen photo. I even found it on a flier the back door advertising a loft for sale.  It will be interesting to see if this one gets lifted too.

Table for Two

Table for two

It is about the pears.  The table is on the skyway over 6th Street just outside of Macy’s.  It wouldn’t be a very good place to sit and chit chat but would be a great place for people watching.
