Downtown St. Paul

When I wanted to learn how to take photos at night I went down to Harriet Island and tool pictures of downtown.  I like to take this shot once a year.  It is better when all the lights are on downtown but I can only do that in the winter when the river isn’t nearly as pretty.   I have to have the red one in the picture and it blinks on and off so I have to wait for it.  Have a happy Saint Patricks day.

Cathedral

Wide angle lenses are so unforgiving.  This is a picture of the Cathedral in St. Paul.  I have of course photographed it many times but neve really noticed the two little trees before.  I really love this church.

Armstrong Quinlan 2012

This lovely brick home was moved to Eagle street by the Xcel Center some years ago.  Half of it was renovated and two condos were created.  The other half has remained empty and waiting for renovation since the housing market crashed.  It went into foreclosure and I suspect it will remain empty until such time that someone can buy it and not lose too much money fixing it up.  It isn’t haunted and the part that was finished really is lovely. . . oh and yes I know I messed up the sky.  I’ll fix it tomorrow.

Turret

One of my favorite St. Paul homes complete with turret.  I don’t live in a house with a turret because . . . never mind.  I am going to say this home is a Queen Anne style victorian home.

TCF Stadium

I usually don’t post two photographs of the same thing but why not?   The TCF stadium is located on the University of Minnesota campus.

Docks along Harriet Island

This dock is the the Mississippi River.  There used to be a couple of restaurants on boats parked along the dock but they are gone now.  I think the floods and the recession chased them away.  This is a poplar area because of the nearby parks.  Maybe I need to open a hot dog stand?

E. 4th street

They just keep digging this street up and then digging it up again.  I wonder if this is the last dig before they lay the tracks for light rail?

Panama Flats

The Panama flats building on Exchange street in St. Paul.  I used a super wide fish eye type lens.   Thought it would be fun to see if I could get the entire building in one shot.

Government Plaza Station

This is another Minneapolis skyway shot.  I took it from the skyway level of the Pillsbury building.  The Minneapolis government center is one of the most photogenic buildings in the twin cities.  Built in  the late 1880′s it looks like a castle.

Winter Skyline

Happy New Year and enjoy the day.  My plans include un-holiday decorating and probably a little photography.  I have taken this shop before and I am sure I will take it again. What caught my eye this time was the frosty haze over the river, all the snow and the refection of the water in the mighty Mississippi.
