Blue Door

Door

I have a collection of pictures of doors.  They represent opportunity and of course there is the old dilemma of trying to decide between door number one and door number two.

General Store

General store

I don’t think it is possible for a store to look more like a general store than this one does.  It looks pretty general in the summer too.

Vacant and Blue

Vacant and Blue

You can probably tell that I took this one while it was snowing. It wasn’t intended for the photo blog it is an image I need for something I am writing.  I used my 50mm lens again.   I decided to leave it on my camera all week and bring my camera with me everywhere I go because I can.   The house is unheated and has been vacant for at least 3 years now and it is on a block with several vacant houses, most of them were rental properties.  There is a kind of mortgage fraud alley a few blocks from where I live a small pocket hit very hard by foreclosures.   About the house . . all I want to say is they don’t build them like that any more and I hate to see it sitting empty.

Pincushion

Sewing

Sewing

As of yesterday I did manage 365 posts for this blog. I started it on January 5, 2009.  The photo was taken in February of 2008, about 10 days after I had just purchased a DSLR camera and was learning to use it in manual mode.  I set up the pincushion and the buttons on my dining room table for practice.  I experimented using the camera in aperture priority mode and in shutter priority mode, and then in manual mode.  I was just starting to get it.  I don’t think I have taken a photo in anything but manual mode since.  There doesn’t seem to be a point in having a camera like mine if it is only to be used just like I used my point and shoot.

I love photography and when I look at this photo I am reminded of how hard it was for me to figure out that dang camera and that the time and effort I put into it was worth it.  I am always learning and there is always more to learn.  It is work but not really because I enjoy it so much and even just holding the camera seems to relax me like nothing else can.  Sometimes I even dream in still shots.  In color of course.  I am looking forward to my next 364 posts.

Look up

It was the best day of 2009, at least for me.
