Not much snow but we got a dusting this week.   I am not a fan of snow but a little white is better than  a lot of brown.

Beautiful sculpture and this years first place winner.  My guess is with the warm up yesterday it doesn’t look the same today.

Rice Park - Winter Carnival

The St. Paul Winter carnival provides a lot of photo opportunities.  I spent much of last weekend outside.  One of my favorite winter events is the ice carving contest.  The sculptures are amazing.

Park

Twin Cities Parks are rarely empty even in the winter.  I used an app called “snapseed” to process this shot which I took with my handy dandy panasonic point and shoot type camera.   I love the old oak trees in the parks and yes I know I have said that before.  This is the last day of January and we have not had much winter this year.  There are a few inches of snow on the ground.  I think this is mother natures way of apologizing for the abuse she heaped upon us last year.

Jackson Street

This is Jackson Street in downtown St. Paul, taken while it was snowing and processed on my iPad using three apps.  I could not replicate this but I had fun with it.

Relatives

I scanned this old photo taken in the 1940′s.  These people were not profoundly sad.  The photo was takend before huge fake smiles became the mandatory pose for portraits.  It looks like the boys are trying not to smile and the light in the photo is too harsh.

Waterous Hydrant

it has been some time since I have added to my collection of valve photographs.  I don’t think I have ever photographed a hydrant in the snow either.  This is an old one and the snow adds some character and will make a nice addition to my collection.

Winter Tree

There wasn’t anyone in the park when I stopped by but the bench and the tree are there waiting for spring.
