Haunted house

I remember how much I enjoyed the haunted house when I was a kid.  I still enjoy a good scare but there are so many things in life that are frightening I don’t have to go to the fair for a little terror.

ferris wheel - MN State Fair

The Minnesota State Fair has a rich history. The event started in 1859, just one year after Minnesota became a state.  The Ferris wheel is the second oldest ride at the fair, it has been there since 1896, the first ride was the merry-go-round it came four years earlier.  This Ferris wheel has been photographed so many times that it has faded but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to take one more shot.

Food in the midway

A big part of the state fair is about food. I didn’t eat much when I went and to be honest there are some things that a grown up probably should not eat.  The fair features just about anything on a stick, and if memory serves the corn dog was the first food on a stick.  I ate a foot long hot dog, they are very good.  Some caramel apples in a dish with ice cream. (heavenly)  On the way out I just had to have a snow cone.  I did not feel all that great the next day but I sure enjoyed it while I was there.

The Midway MN, State Fair 2010

There is nothing like the Midway at the State Fair on a beautiful August night.  The sites, sounds and smells and all the people.  It is a great place to bring the old camera.  I got by with a mono pod and a cable release.  It was much too crowded to even consider setting up a tri-pod.

Rides at the State Fair

I had a lot of fun with my organge theme last week.  I won’t be doing a theme every week but it is Minnesota State Fair time which presents oh so many photo opportunities.  Our state fair is a huge event that goes way beyond the teddy bear and tractor and lasts for 12 days.  I went on opening day and will be going back later this week.

Construction

Orange is used a lot for safety yet it isn’t a save color it is a warning color. This is my last day of orange. It was fun and now I see orange every where.

Fork in the road truck

In honor of orange week on my photo blog I took a picture of the Fork In the Road Truck.  They serve food and show up at local parks downtown.  Last Tuesday they were at Mears Park and there was quite a line. It was a gorgeous day and the park was full of lunch eaters.

Monarch Butterfly

These little guys just never stop moving.  They are not orange but orange enough for orange week.

Giant Sunflower

Maybe this one has more yellow than orange but it has enough orange for me. Taken at the children’s garden near the corner of 3rd and Maria on St. Paul’s East side.  I would say I grew up there but maybe I should say I was raised there. Right over on Wakefield Street on the 900 block.  I love sunflowers and they are in full bloom right now. I need to find a field of them.

Orange is a good color but we don’t often think of it as a color to paint a house. This home is very cute. Built in the late 1800′s, painted orange and photographed for day 2 of orange week.
