Once upon a time, like back in 2010 there used to be fireworks in St. Paul to celebrate the 4th of July. The pyrotechnics were launched over the river and people could see them from the parks and the nearby bridges.
That was before a ballpark was built in downtown St. Paul on the lowest piece of land in the city. Now the fireworks are hidden where few can see and enjoy them as they rise up out of the ballpark and are blocked by the downtown buildings.
Never have so few enjoyed public fireworks in St. Paul, and all because we have a downtown ballpark. The river has always been more beautiful and more accessible to more people than the little downtown ballpark and will be there long after the park is gone and replaced with something else.
